About me

If you came straight to this webpage, welcome! My name is Chanelle. Here’s a bit of my story and how it shapes my work…..

My career in education began nearly two decades ago teaching English in rural Japan, before a few years of overseas adventuring, and establishing a career in supporting international student wellbeing within the university sector. The counselling seed was planted nearly 15 years ago during a job back in Aotearoa New Zealand, working in international student wellbeing. My manager at the time was a counsellor and gently encouraged me to consider it as a career. That conversation has stayed with me and went on to influence my work and life goals.

As someone who is neurodivergent, ADHD has a part in how I experience the world, without defining me. It brings empathy, creativity, and fresh perspectives that enrich my work, family life, relationships and interests (of which there’s many!). It helps me to connect with many different people, and I genuinely care about their experiences, stories, and what makes them, ‘them.’. This informs my work as both a counsellor and consultant.

Over the past 8 years, I’ve led teams in health consumer engagement, peer support and community education & support services. I’ve designed and delivered support services for dementia, brain injury, lung disease, and worked with lived and living experience advocates who were leading the way for change in the health system.

Alongside this work, I decided to go back to school, and completed my Diploma of Counselling, and I am currently studying a Graduate Diploma in Relationship Counselling. As a registered counsellor I continue to learn, and gain regular supervision, required for all registered counsellors. I also have a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) in Media and Political Science and training in Partnership Brokerage.

My counselling professional development includes:

  • Professional Certificate of Neurodivergent Affirming Practices (DivergAntz Collective)

  • Working with Children and Adolescents: Clinical Interventions for Contemporary Issues (Micro-credential, Mental Health Academy)

  • Disaster Mental Health Counselling (Micro-credential, Mental Health Academy)

  • What is Narrative Practice (Certification Module, Dulwich Centre)
